Editorial Standards

Our commitment to accuracy, expertise, and transparency in every article we publish.

Authorship & Expertise

Every article published on ICMD is written by a named author with verifiable expertise in the subject matter. We do not publish articles by anonymous contributors or generalist content writers. Each author's credentials, professional background, and areas of expertise are publicly available on their contributor profile.

We select contributors based on demonstrated experience — years of hands-on work in their field, verifiable professional history, and the ability to write from first-person experience rather than secondary research alone. Our contributors include engineers who build production systems, investors who evaluate startups professionally, product managers who have shipped products at scale, and attorneys who advise venture-backed companies.

Editorial Process

Every article goes through a multi-stage editorial process before publication:

  1. Expert authoring — Articles are written by domain experts with first-hand experience in the topic.
  2. Fact verification — Claims, statistics, and technical details are verified against primary sources. When we cite data, we reference the original source.
  3. Technical review — Technical articles are reviewed by at least one additional subject matter expert to verify accuracy and completeness.
  4. Editorial review — All articles are reviewed for clarity, structure, and readability. We ensure complex topics are explained accessibly without sacrificing accuracy.
  5. Publication — Articles are published with clear attribution, publication dates, and category classification.

Accuracy & Corrections

We take accuracy seriously. If we publish an error — factual, technical, or otherwise — we correct it promptly and transparently. Corrections are noted at the top of the affected article with a clear description of what was changed and when. We do not silently edit published articles to remove errors.

If you identify an error in any ICMD article, please email corrections@icmd.app with the article URL and a description of the issue. We investigate all reported errors and respond within 48 hours.

Independence & Disclosure

ICMD maintains editorial independence from advertisers, sponsors, and partners. Our editorial decisions — what topics to cover, what positions to take, and what products to recommend — are made solely by our editorial team based on relevance and quality.

When our contributors have potential conflicts of interest — investments in companies they write about, employment relationships, or financial interests — we disclose them clearly in the article. Transparency about potential biases is essential to maintaining reader trust.

Content Principles

  • Experience over theory — We prioritize insights from practitioners who have done the work, not analysts who study it from a distance.
  • Actionable over abstract — Every article should give the reader something they can apply immediately — a framework, a checklist, a decision process, or a specific recommendation.
  • Honest about trade-offs — We don't pretend there are silver bullets. When we recommend a technology, strategy, or approach, we discuss its limitations and alternatives.
  • Respect for the reader's time — We write as concisely as the topic allows. Long articles are long because the topic demands depth, not because we're padding word count.
  • No undisclosed AI-generated content — While we use AI tools to assist with research and editing, all articles are conceived, structured, written, and reviewed by human experts. We do not publish AI-generated content passed off as human expertise.

Updates & Freshness

Technology evolves rapidly, and articles can become outdated. We periodically review our most-read articles to ensure their recommendations remain current. When we update an article significantly, we note the update date and summarize what changed. Articles that are no longer accurate and cannot be updated are clearly marked as outdated.
